Teen Cranes complete double against Namibia in FIFA U17 Women World Cup Qualifiers

Kampala, (UG):- Uganda’s U17 Women’s National Team comfortably advanced to the second round of the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers 2025 with a commanding 8-1 victory over Namibia in the second leg of their first-round tie on Sunday at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo.

The win followed their dominant 10-0 triumph in the first leg, sealing an 18-1 aggregate scoreline.

The Teen Cranes wasted no time asserting their dominance, taking the lead in the 15th minute after an own goal from Namibia’s Renalda Angel Tamara.

Uganda’s pressure continued as Joan Kizza Namulindwa doubled the lead in the 35th minute, before Isabella Blick added a third just a minute later with a close-range tap-in.

Coach Sheryl Botes made five changes to the starting lineup from the first leg, resting key players like captain Agnes Nabukenya and midfielder Shadia Nabirye.

They were replaced by Irene Kabarokole, Isabella Blick, Joan Kizza Namulindwa, Loyce Komugisha, and Mariam Namataka, all of whom contributed to the victory.

In the second half, Uganda wasted no time in extending their lead. Namulindwa scored her second of the match just a minute after the restart before completing her hat-trick in the 50th minute.

Rinah Ariho added a sixth goal in the 53rd minute, further solidifying Uganda’s superiority in the match.

Uganda’s dominance continued with further contributions from substitutes. Nabirye and Nakalema both got on the score sheet as the Teen Cranes ran riot in the final 20 minutes.

Despite the one-sided nature of the game, Namibia pulled one goal back in the 68th minute through Shiwovanhu Haukongo, but it did little to alter the outcome.

The 8-1 victory over Namibia capped a clinical performance by the Teen Cranes, who showed their depth and clinical finishing in both legs of the tie.

The result now sees Uganda progress to the second round with an 18-1 aggregate score, where they will face Kenya in March.

Uganda’s next challenge will be a regional showdown with Kenya, as they look to continue their strong run in the qualifiers and keep their World Cup dream alive.
