Kampala, (UG):- The Senior Presidential Advisor SPA/PA Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo Uzeiye, who also doubles as the Manager of the Office of the NRM National Chairman (ONC), has called on Ugandans to actively participate in the ongoing General Update of the National Voters’ Register.
The exercise, which began on Monday, January 20, 2025, was flagged off by the Electoral Commission (EC) Chairperson, Justice Byabakama Mugenyi Simon, at Kamwokya II, Kampala Central Division, in Kampala City. It will run daily from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, including weekends, and will conclude on February 10, 2025.
Speaking from ONC offices at Kyambogo in Kampala, Hajjat Namyalo emphasized the significance of this process, urging citizens to visit parish update stations and ensure their details are accurate.
“This exercise is critical to ensuring a free and fair election next year. Therefore, I strongly encourage all Ugandans to visit their respective update stations and participate in shaping the nation’s future,” she said.
The ONC boss further highlighted the need for mass participation, stating, “This process is a cornerstone of our democracy, and we must embrace it fully to safeguard our collective future.”
Ms Namyalo assured the public that the ONC would provide regular updates on the progress of the voter registration exercise, reiterating the importance of every citizen’s involvement in strengthening the nation’s democratic journey.
In addition to updating the National Voters’ Register, the Commission will during the 21-day period also update the Voters’ Registers for Special Interest Groups (SIGs).
These include; the National Youth Voters’ Register for Youth Councils and Committees elections, the National PWDs (Persons with Disabilities) Voters’ Register for PWD Councils and Committees elections, and the National Older Persons Voters’ Register for Older Persons Councils and Committees elections.
The general update of the National Voters’ Register is a vital step in preparing for the smooth organization and conduct of the 2025/2026 General Elections.
