2026 Elections: Hundreds defect opposition to NRM, pledge to promote gov’t programmes

Yumbe, (UG):- The National Resistance Movement (NRM) has received a significant boost as hundreds of opposition members in Yumbe District crossed from their political parties to join the ruling party ahead of a busy election period for 2026 polls.

The defectors were received during a strategic dialogue held in Yumbe Town led by Ms. Amia Irene, the West Nile Sub-region ONC Coordinator.

Acting on delegation ONC Manager SPA/Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo Uzeiye, Ms Irene engaged the defectors and their leaders on the possible mobilization strategies for the upcoming 2026 general elections and other critical issues such as combating corruption and promoting government programs within the district.

Ms Irene lauded the defectors for their decision to embrace the NRM and urged them to actively support government initiatives to drive development in Yumbe.

“Yumbe was once a stronghold of the FDC party, but sustained efforts by the NRM district team, including the late Hajji Musa Give, have shifted the political tide,” Ms Irene remarked, as he welcomed Mr. Anule Musa Muhammed, a renowned mobilizer for the FDC who has now joined the NRM ranks.

The new converts expressed their total commitment to supporting the NRM but also appealed to President Museveni to fulfil pledges made during the last elections through Mr. Ochile Mafuti, the NRM Registrar for Yumbe.
