Two dead, 12 critically injured in Nakasongola multiple car crash

Nakasongola, (UG):- At least two people lost their lives, and 12 others sustained critical injuries in a tragic road accident that occurred on Tuesday evening at approximately 6:08 PM at Bujaabe Village in Nakitoma Subcounty, Nakasongola District.

The fatal accident according to a traffic police report involved three vehicles: a white Isuzu Elf truck (registration number UBP 557B), an Isuzu Bus belonging to Nile Star Company (UBD 215R), and a white Toyota Hiace van (UBR 783N).

Preliminary reports indicate that the Isuzu Bus, travelling behind the Toyota Hiace en route to Gulu, suffered a mechanical failure when its front tyre detached. This caused the bus to lose control, striking the Toyota Hiace and subsequently colliding head-on with the Isuzu Elf truck travelling towards Kampala.

One male adult, the driver of the Isuzu Elf, died on the spot, while a young child travelling in the Toyota Hiace succumbed to injuries upon arrival at Kyiryandongo Hospital. The identities of both the deceased and the injured passengers have yet to be established.

“All the vehicles involved have been towed to Nakitoma Police Station for further inspection by the Inspector of Vehicles (IOV),” ASP Twiineamazina added.

The traffic police in Nakasongola are continuing their investigations into the exact cause of the accident but the tragedy serves as a sombre reminder of the need for road safety and regular vehicle maintenance to prevent such fatal incidents.
