Six arrested over two bodies recovered in Kapeeka

Nakaseke, (UG):- The Territorial Police in Nakaseke District have initiated investigations into the deaths of two individuals whose bodies were found in Kapeeka sub-county on January 25, 2025.

The deceased have been identified as Bamweyana Ssematimba, a DJ at Vespa Club, and 20-year-old Sylvia Nakayenga, a resident of Kalagala B village in Kapeeka sub-county.

According to Savannah Region Police Spokesperson ASP Sam Twiineamazima, the case was first reported by James Sseruwagi, a businessman and resident of Kapeeka Central LC1, at 4:55 am.

Prior to this, a casual labourer at Vespa Club, Africa Aramanzan, had informed authorities that he found Ssematimba dead in his bed around 2:00 am after the club had closed.

“The body of Sylvia Nakayenga was later discovered lying in a banana plantation behind Vespa Club. It was Sseruwagi who alerted the police about this second body,” Twiineamazima stated.

Police investigations revealed that Ssematimba’s body was found on a mattress in a room at Vespa Club, while Nakayenga’s body was discovered in a blue and white flowered dress, lying clean and facing north in the plantation. Both bodies reportedly showed signs of suspected strangulation, as their necks appeared loose and could tilt in any direction.

“There was no sign of struggle at the scene where Nakayenga’s body was found, suggesting it could have been carried there,” Twiineamazima added.

The two deceased individuals were reportedly lovers and had been last seen together. A canine unit deployed to the scene traced a scent around Kapeeka town before it led officers back to the police station, raising questions about the involvement of reporters and Vespa Club workers in the incident.

In connection with the investigation, police have arrested Sseruwagi, Aramanzan, and several Vespa Club employees to assist with inquiries, while others remain at large. Both bodies have been transported to Nakaseke Hospital Mortuary for postmortem examinations.

Twiineamazima confirmed that statements have been recorded from key witnesses, including relatives of the deceased, and that a team of homicide, forensic, and canine officers from the Luwero sub-region documented the scene.
