The AFCON draw, which took place Monday evening, saw Morocco, the tournament host, placed in Group A alongside Mali, Zambia, and Comoros.

With the advantage of playing on home soil, Morocco will be hoping to perform strongly and advance deep into the competition.

In Group B, Egypt, seven-time AFCON champions, will rely on the leadership of Mohamed Salah and Omar Marmoush as they face South Africa, Angola, and Zimbabwe in their quest for another continental crown.

Nigeria, aiming to win their first AFCON title since 2013, will kick off their campaign in Group C against Tunisia, Uganda, and Tanzania.

The Super Eagles are widely regarded as one of the favourites for the title, but their journey will not be easy as they contend with teams eager to make their mark on the continental stage.

Tunisia, with their experienced squad, will also be eyeing a strong showing, while Tanzania is looking to upset the odds and push for qualification.

Defending champions Senegal, fresh off their historic 2021 AFCON victory, have been drawn into Group D with DR Congo, Benin, and Botswana.

The Teranga Lions, led by stars like Sadio Mane, will be among the top contenders, while DR Congo and Benin will be looking to challenge for a spot in the knockout rounds.

Group E features Algeria, who will face Burkina Faso, Equatorial Guinea, and Sudan, as they aim to rebound from a disappointing 2021 campaign.

Group F presents one of the most eagerly anticipated matchups, with Côte d’Ivoire and Cameroon set to renew their rivalry. Both teams have a rich history in African football, and their clash promises to be a highlight of the tournament.

Gabon and Mozambique will complete the group, ensuring a competitive atmosphere. As the defending champions, Côte d’Ivoire will look to retain their title, but Cameroon and other challengers will be determined to claim the crown for themselves.

The 2025 AFCON tournament will kick off on December 21, with the hosts Morocco opening against Comoros.

The tournament, held in six cities over four weeks, promises to be a thrilling spectacle, with one nation ultimately crowned the champions of Africa.
