Kole, (UG):- President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has issued a strong call to Ugandans to shed laziness, highlighting it as a key factor contributing to persistent poverty in the country.
Speaking on Tuesday, January 28, at his ongoing wealth creation tour in the Lango Sub-Region, the President emphasized the importance of hard work and active participation in the government’s Parish Development Model (PDM) as a means to tackle household poverty.
“Many Ugandans have become spectators of this transformative program,” Museveni noted on his to a beneficiary farmer in Akaidebe Cell in Eastern Ward, Kole Town Council, Kole District.
“Rather than engaging with the Parish Development Model like the successful beneficiaries I am visiting, they have chosen to remain passive. I urge all citizens to awaken from their slumber and embrace this opportunity to improve their lives,” he added.
Mr Museveni also visited Rose Akoi’s home, a beneficiary of the PDM, who invested her funds in purchasing four piglets and a goat.
In a narration of her success story, Ms Akoi shared that through her hard work, she was able to sell the offspring for 2 million shillings, using the proceeds to expand her farm and improve her household income.
Another beneficiary, Vicky Apio Ojok from Alingiri village in Amach Town Council, also spoke to the President about her success.
Ojok used her investment to cultivate maize on a 2.5-acre plot, generating 4.5 million shillings in profit, which she reinvested into purchasing 10 sheep that are steadily multiplying.
Right Rev. Bishop Alfred Olwa, who practices the four-acre model of farming, praised the Parish Development Model as a groundbreaking initiative that has the potential to eliminate poverty in Uganda.
He, however, emphasized the need for the government to shift the mindset of the citizens to ensure the program’s success.
The government has already invested over 2.4 trillion shillings into the Parish Development Model, signalling a strong commitment to uplifting households across the country.
