Entebbe, (UG):- Uganda’s Director General of Internal Security Organisation (ISO), Brigadier-General Charles Oluka is dead.
Gen Oluka, 57, who has been Uganda’s Chief of Spy since October 2020 passed on from Seguku Hospital in Entebbe where he was rushed Wednesday evening with heart-related complications.
His death was confirmed by the Special Presidential Assistant- Press and Mobilization and Deputy Spokesperson, Haji Faruk Kirunda in a post via X, formerly Twitter on Wednesday evening.
“Sad news coming in of the sudden death of the Director General, Internal Security Organisation (ISO), Brig. Gen. Charles Oluka,” Kirunda posted.
“He died at Seguku hospital where he was rushed this evening. Details to follow…May his soul rest in eternal peace,” he added.
Gen Oluka had been battling with heart complications, according to sources in the military although the cause of his death is yet to be disclosed.
Brief Profile
Prior to assuming the position of Director General for ISO, Oluka had served as the Director of Technical Services at the country’s spy body until 2018.
On 8 October 2020, President Yoweri Museveni appointed him as the substantive Director General of the Internal Security Organisation.
He replaced Col Kaka Bagyenda, who, together with his deputy Don Mugimba, were relieved of their positions amid enormous criticism related to concocted intelligence reports.
Oluka was pivotal in ISO’s apprehension of criminals involved in the greater Masaka machete attacks that left close to 30 people killed between July and September 2021.
He was always present in joint security briefings whenever a crime incident that needed joint efforts happened together with his deputy Taban Amin, one of the sons of former Ugandan president Idi Amin.
The son of Teso is survived by his wife Harriet Akisa, with whom he tied the knot at St Patrick’s Catholic Church, Madera-Soroti, in 2023.
