Pallisa, (UG):- As the main NRM 39th Liberation Day celebrations were held in Mubende District on January 26, 2025, residents of Agule County in Pallisa District marked the occasion at Kameke Primary School playground.

The event, organized by Okello Herbert, a prospective candidate for Agule County Member of Parliament, focused on entertainment by local artists and comedians.

Okello explained that he adapted the national theme, “Celebrating Pan-African Solidarity and the People’s Sacrifice in the Struggle for Freedom and Democracy for Socio-Economic Transformation,” by emphasizing democracy and socio-economic transformation.

He tasked local artists to compose songs in Ateso, encouraging people to embrace government poverty eradication initiatives such as the Parish Development Model (PDM).

“I was pleased to read some success stories of PDM in DailyExpress, where beneficiaries shared how they succeeded by properly utilizing the government’s seed funds,” Okello noted, emphasising that the event aimed to popularize NRM achievements at the grassroots and remind people why President Museveni and 27 others went to the bush.

Rev. Osire Abraham, one of the organizers, highlighted the presence of Johnson Emong Otinga, a renowned pentatonic-oriented artist who composed the 2016 NRM anthem “Eastern Uganda No Change Kaguta.” His performance added a patriotic flavour to the day.

Rev. Osire also emphasized the need to educate the public about the historical significance of Liberation Day, urging organizers to hold the event in Agule again next year.

Anna Stella Akol from Omuroka Village in Kameke Sub-county admitted that she initially didn’t understand the purpose of the gathering until Okello’s speech clarified it. She praised the mobilization efforts, including DJs who urged people to update their names in the Electoral Commission register.

The event featured performances by Emong Otinga Johnson of Bukedea Jazz Band, Apolo Wilson, and other local artists.

Pallisa Resident District Commissioner Mr Magid Dhikusooka commended residents for their discipline during the celebrations. He took the opportunity to remind parents of their responsibility to ensure children return to school on schedule.

“I’m not pleased with this year’s academic performance as the district has been stuck at 78 Division One passes for two consecutive years. Government invests heavily in education, and it is embarrassing for Pallisa to score only 78 out of 6,000 candidates,” Dhikusooka said.

He also warned against corrupt practices in teacher recruitment, stating, “I have information that competent teachers are being excluded for failing to pay bribes. Anyone caught will face serious consequences.”
