Kampala, (UG):- The lawyers in a private prosecution against Uganda Law Society President, Isaac Ssemakadde have asked the Buganda Road Chief Magistrate’s Court to issue a warrant of arrest against the Radical New Bar chief for not honouring court summons.

Tonny Tumukunde and Joshua Byamazima who filed a lawsuit against Ssemakadde accusing him of insulting the Director of Public Prosecution DPP Justice Jane Frances Abodo, now want a warrant for his arrest for not honouring the summons after he was a no-show on Wednesday, January 29, when he was expected before the Chief Magistrate.

According to the duo, Ssemakadde’s failure to appear in court was a deliberate attempt to undermine the judicial process and therefore, an arrest warrant is necessary to ensure he faces justice.

However, Ssemakadde’s legal team, led by Derrick Bazekuketta opposed the request, asserting that their client was effectively present in court through his legal representation.

Case Background

The charges of insulting modesty of a woman stem from an incident on November 18, 2024, during a symposium on the state of the Rule of Law, Constitutionalism, and Human Rights organized by the People’s Freedom Front (PFF) at Katonga Road, Kampala Central.

During the function, Ssemakadde allegedly referred to Justice Abodo using derogatory terms, including “vagina from Karamoja” and “pumpkin,” remarks deemed insulting to her dignity.

“Anyone who refers to a woman by her private body parts intends to insult her modesty,” Chief Magistrate Kayizzi stated during the court session.

“Anyone who refers to a woman as ‘vagina from Karamoja… a pumpkin… dead wood… a dimwit’ at a public gathering, well aware that there is media presence, knows that the said woman will definitely hear those words. The intention is most likely to insult her modesty.”

Kayizzi adjourned the case to February 10, when he will deliver a ruling on whether or not to issue the arrest warrant against the Radical New Bar President.
