Budaka, (UG):– The Territorial Police in North Bukedi Region are investigating a serious traffic accident on the Mbale-Tirinyi Road that left two people injured after a three-vehicle collision on Friday morning.
The 9:43 am road crash involved a white Toyota Hilux and two Toyota Hiace minibuses—one pale white and the other blue.
Eyewitnesses reported that all vehicles were travelling from Mbale, when the lead vehicle, a Toyota Hilux (registration UBN 889C), signaled to turn right near Nyanza.
However, in an unfortunate sequence of events, the blue Toyota Hiace (registration UBR 463K) attempted to overtake, grazed the Hilux, and collided with it. Moments later, the second Hiace (registration UBM 723L) rear-ended the blue Hiace, worsening the impact.
The injured victims, identified as 24-year-old Otalanyi Joel and 16-year-old Kwagga Norah, a pupil at Bukiyi Primary School in Buwalas, sustained minor injuries and were quickly taken to Mbale Referral Hospital for treatment.
“The scene drew the immediate response of law enforcement. Sergeant Talunga of Budaka Police Station arrived to oversee the situation,” said Bukedi North Regional Police Commander ACP Mwanga Moses Kitiyo.
The RCP further confirmed that the involved vehicles were towed to the police yard for inspection, as investigations into the cause of the crash commenced. He urged motorists to exercise caution on the highway to prevent such incidents.
