Museveni cancels police bonds for officials accused of PDM extortion

Kampala, (UG):- President Yoweri Museveni has directed the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to cancel police bonds recently granted to officials accused of extorting money from beneficiaries of the Parish Development Model (PDM) in Lango.

The President made this directive in a statement on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, February 2, 2025, emphasizing the need for strict action against corruption.

In a brief statement shared on the afternoon, Mr Museveni revealed that he had read a report written by the late ISO Chief Brig Gen Charles Oluka on January 25, 2025, detailing how corrupt officials in Lango were exploiting PDM beneficiaries.

The officials according to the President had been arrested but were later released on police bond, a move he strongly opposed and directed the IGP to immediately cancel these bonds.

“Today, 2nd February, I have directed the IGP to cancel those police bonds and make sure that they are tried. Any official who does not do his duty in prosecuting those thieves (suspected) will be held accountable,” Museveni firmly stated.

The President’s statement re-emphasized his continued crackdown on corruption, particularly in government programs aimed at uplifting Ugandans from poverty.

The Parish Development Model, a flagship government initiative, is designed to improve household incomes at the grassroots level, and any mismanagement of its funds has been met with strong opposition from the Head of State.

With this directive, the implicated officials in Lango are expected to face full prosecution, as authorities move to enforce the President’s orders.
