Iganga, (UG):- Education authorities in Iganga District have threatened to close all schools operating without meeting the minimum requirements set by the Ministry of Education and Sports as the first term of 2025 begins on Monday, February 3.
The Inspector of Schools for Iganga district, Ms Kwagala Sarah, revealed this while presiding over a thanksgiving ceremony at Dawn Prime Academy in Iwawu village, Bulamagi Sub County after flourishing with the best grades in the 2024 Primary Leaving Exams.
Dawn Prime Academy registered an impressive achievement, with all 171 of its Primary Seven candidates passing their PLE. A total of 113 pupils scored Division One, while 58 secured Division Two.
To recognize their hard work, the best performers were awarded mattresses, scholastic materials, and cash prizes as motivation. Additionally, Primary Seven teachers received cash envelopes as a token of appreciation for their dedication.
Crackdown on Schools Without Requirements
Ms. Kwagala expressed concern over schools that had resumed operations without meeting the required standards. “It is very unfortunate that some schools have opened without minimum requirements. We shall move village to village and monitor all schools, closing those that have failed to adhere,” she warned.
She further urged parents to remain vigilant, adding that the district education office would soon release a list of compliant schools.
Ms Kwagala also advised parents to support children who performed poorly by allowing them to repeat the year instead of abandoning their education after primary level before cautioning teachers against absenteeism, especially during the opening days of the term.
Bishop Wakula’s Call for Wise School Selection

The celebrations commenced with a prayer session led by the Bishop of Busoga Central Diocese, Rt. Rev. Patrick Wakula, who commended the school for its academic excellence. He encouraged parents to carefully guide their children in selecting secondary schools.
“Can you see that these children go to Senior One, especially where they hope best? But of course, counselling is very important because you need to guide them on the best schools that suit your pocket, even if they sometimes tend to desire schools of their choice,” Bishop Wakula advised.
One of the school’s directors, Ms. Mpaabe Justine, applauded the staff and parents for their unwavering support and pledged continued excellence in academics. She urged parents to scrutinize the schools where they enroll their children, emphasizing the importance of discipline.
“Let us always check the schools where we want to take our children. Schools are many with beautiful buildings but seek a school inclined on discipline. Sometimes, we produce good children, but they end up in bad schools that do not prioritize discipline and good morals,” Ms Mpaabe cautioned.
Hon. Kauma Sauda Commends the School
The event was graced by the Woman Member of Parliament for Iganga district, Hon. Kauma Sauda Alibaawo, who praised Dawn Prime Academy for consistently excelling in academics since its inception. Parents and other dignitaries also attended the function.
Meanwhile, DailyExpress has established that there were no withheld PLE results from Iganga district. Out of the 8,485 candidates who sat for the exams in 2024, 93 did not write their papers, resulting in them being registered under Division X.
