Sironko, (UG):- A section of leaders from Budadiri East in Sironko District have endorsed Eng. Julius Nakiyi, the Director of Rosewood Hotels as their preferred candidate for the Budadiri East Parliamentary race. The endorsement took place over the weekend as Nakiyi officially launched his parliamentary bid in Elgon Sub-County.

Dadiri Gidudu John, the LC3 chairman for Busulani Sub-County, publicly backed Nakiyi despite being a member of the opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC).

Dadiri, who previously played a key role in mobilizing support for the incumbent MP, stated that it was time for the people to focus on electing true leaders rather than what he termed as “opportunists.”

He commended Nakiyi for his humility and commitment to serving the people, assuring voters that Nakiyi would not abandon them if elected.

Paul Nakiyi, the LC5 councillor for Buhugu Sub-County, also praised Julius Nakiyi for his respect and appreciation of local leaders. He noted that, in the short time he had interacted with Nakiyi, he observed that the aspirant was genuinely interested in transforming the lives of his constituents.

In his address, Eng Nakiyi outlined five key pillars on which his campaign will be based. He pledged to focus on firstly, Economic and youth empowerment, Infrastructure and service delivery, Agriculture and food security, Unity, Leadership and good governance

Nakiyi assured voters that he would campaign across all sub-counties, seeking support from everyone regardless of their political affiliations. He emphasized his commitment to inclusive leadership and pledged to work with all stakeholders to bring development to Budadiri East.

Nakiyi will be competing against incumbent MP Sasaga Isaiah Wanzila, former MP Vincent Woboya, and John Kiwungulo in the race for the parliamentary seat.

When contacted for a comment, MP Sasaga Isaiah dismissed the endorsement, branding the leaders as opportunists who were only backing his opponents due to past disagreements over accountability issues.

He criticized Dadiri Gidudu, claiming that he had a history of political deception, likening him to a “green snake in the grass.”

Sasaga alleged that in past elections, Dadiri had manipulated declaration forms under the guise of collecting them for FDC. He warned Nakiyi and other contenders to remain vigilant against such tactics, emphasizing that his camp had grown wiser to such schemes in the previous elections.
