Kumi, (UG):- The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) leadership, led by Party President Eng. Patrick Oboi Amuriat, joined thousands of supporters in Nyero Town Council, Kumi District, for the thanksgiving ceremony of Ms Atemo Mary Gorrety, an aspiring Woman MP for the Teso subregion district.
The event, held Saturday, February 07, 2025, began with a Holy Mass led by Rev. Fr. Emalu Emanuel Michael of St. Anthony Padwa Parish, Nyero-Soroti Catholic Diocese.
Speaking at the function, Eng. Patrick Oboi Amuriat reaffirmed the FDC’s commitment to fighting for the people’s rights, calling on the residents of Kumi to rally behind leaders who will champion the interests of the people rather than serve personal or partisan agendas.
Rt. Hon. Nathan Nandala Mafabi, in his remarks, encouraged unity among opposition forces to challenge the status quo and bring about meaningful change in Uganda.
He praised Ms. Atemo Mary Gorrety for stepping forward to serve the people of Kumi and urged voters to support her because she will truly represent their voices.
In her address, Ms Atemo Mary Gorrety thanked her supporters, the church, and the FDC leadership for standing with her and assured the people of Kumi that she will be their voice.
The function was also graced by the presence of the FDC Secretary General Rt. Hon. Nathan Nandala Mafabi, the Chairperson of the FDC Women’s League Ms Agnes Kisakye, the Chairperson of the Youth League Mr Adepo Francis and other NEC Members.
Several Members of Parliament from Teso, including; Hon. Stella Isodo Apolot – Woman MP, Ngora District, Hon. Joan Alobo Achom – Woman MP, Soroti City, Hon. Embwalu Johnathan – MP, Soroti East also attended the function.
The Kumi District Woman MP seat is currently occupied by Hon Monicah Amoding, a member of the ruling National Resistance Movement.
