Kampala, (UG):- Ronnie Kayondo, a player for Kampani Eagles RFC, tragically passed away on February 9, 2025, following an injury sustained during a rugby match on Saturday.
The incident occurred at Kyadondo Rugby Club in Kampala, during a fixture between Buffaloes Rugby Club and Kampani Eagles RFC.
Kayondo suffered a severe concussion during the match, which led to a brain bleed. Despite efforts to save him, he was later pronounced dead at Kampala Hospital.
The news has shocked the rugby community and left many in mourning. The Federation of Rugby in Uganda expressed its sorrow over Ronnie’s death.
In a heartfelt statement posted on social media, the Federation announced the death of Kayondo.
“With deep sorrow, we mourn the passing of Eagle Rugby player Kayondo Ronnie.” The federation posted.
They also extended their condolences to his family, teammates, and loved ones. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, teammates, and loved ones.” The statement continued.

The rugby community has been deeply affected by this tragic loss, as Ronnie was known for his dedication and passion for the sport.
In closing, the Federation paid a final tribute, saying, “Rest in Peace, Ronnie. Your spirit will forever live on in the game you loved.”
His loss is felt by everyone in the rugby community, and he will be dearly missed.
