Gulu City, (UG):- Gulu City is set to make history beyond Uganda’s border as it readies to host legendary American singer, producer and writer Lionel Richie and a lineup of global stars for a landmark music concert aimed at climate action and cultural empowerment.
The Adventure of Humanity, a global humanitarian initiative, in partnership with Music in Space, announced the grand event, which is scheduled to take place from May 30 to June 9, 2025.
This high-profile concert will not only entertain but also raise awareness for climate restoration efforts in Northern Uganda while driving regional economic transformation.
Hon. Nobert Mao, Uganda’s Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, who officially launched preparations for the concert from Uganda Media Center Tuesday 11th, revealed a star-studded lineup of artists, including the legendary Lionel Richie, Nigerian music sensation Burna Boy, and other prominent international acts from South Africa, Uganda, and beyond.
“Lionel Richie is coming to Gulu in June. And sister Sledge is also going to be performing in the same concert,” Mr Mao said, adding; “Why Gulu, because this concert is about repairing the world. This is a response to the global climate crisis a battle we must all face together. I call on Ugandans to unite and make this campaign a success. This is not just about Gulu or Uganda, but about the entire world.”
Mao also highlighted the concert’s potential to provide Uganda’s youth with an international platform to showcase their talents in the creative industry.

A Catalyst for Economic & Cultural Growth
Beyond music, the concert is part of a global movement with several key goals such as raising awareness about climate change through music and art empowering local businesses by providing economic benefits to vendors, hospitality, transport, and entrepreneurs developing youth and creative talent, offering local artists, musicians, and filmmakers the opportunity to shine on a global stage.
The concert is also expected to boost tourism and investment, positioning Gulu as a vibrant hub for arts, culture, and eco-tourism.
Richard Nilsson, who doubled as the President of Adventure of Humanity and chairperson of the Himalayan Space Centre emphasized the event’s three core objectives: raising climate awareness, supporting the education of 1,000 schoolchildren, and promoting global unity.
The concert enjoys the backing of The Michael Jackson Foundation and The Nelson Mandela Foundation, strengthening its global significance.
Gulu’s Transformation into a Cultural Powerhouse
Bjorn Vido, CEO Music in Space and an internationally acclaimed sound designer and filmmaker, has taken residence in Gulu to oversee preparations. Known for organizing major concerts across Africa and beyond, Vido revealed in an exclusive interview with DailyExpress that talks are ongoing with more global stars, including Nigerian artist Davido, who has already confirmed his participation.

Preparations are in full swing, with venues secured at Pece War Memorial Stadium and Kaunda Ground. Infrastructure enhancements are underway to accommodate the 250,000+ expected attendees from Uganda and beyond.
Gulu City Mayor Alfred Okwonga, in handing over venue rights, urged the business community to seize the economic opportunities the concert will bring. “This will be a one-of-a-kind event for Gulu, Uganda, and Africa. We encourage businesses—hotels, transport, food and beverage, and tourism—to get ready for the demand,” Okwonga said.
Global Collaboration for a World-Class Event
Event Coordinator Dr Winifred Patricia Johansen has been engaging local leaders and security teams to ensure smooth execution, while the organizing team has also met with Buganda Kingdom’s Queen Sylvia Nnaabagereka in a show of national unity.
Miss Kgomotso Gobeni, the Director of Partner Africa and a renown South African producer and digital strategist, emphasized the concert’s global outreach and the opportunities it presents for Ugandan youth. “This event is more than just a concert—it’s an avenue for young creatives to expand their networks and build digital marketing brands,” she noted.
With all permits secured and anticipation building, Gulu City is set to make history, hosting one of the most significant music events Africa has ever seen.
