Kampala, (UG):- Retired Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIGP Asan Kasingye has hailed his counterpart AIGP Tom Magambo for his transformative leadership at the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) and congratulated him upon the renewal of his contract by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

Kasingye, who previously served as the Police Political Commissar, described Magambo’s tenure as instrumental in revitalizing the CID, which he said was once considered the “sick man of the police.”

“Congratulations @Tom_Magambo on your contract extension by @KagutaMuseveni as @CID1_UG director. Your leadership has transformed the directorate into a beacon of hope that has demonstrated efficiency and effectiveness in service delivery, especially through collaboration with relevant agencies like @ODPPUGANDA,” Kasingye stated in a message shared on X platform, formerly Twitter.

The Retired AIGP, shower, challenged Magambo to swing into action in tackling rising rural crime, particularly theft affecting government programs like the Parish Development Model (PDM). He highlighted growing cases of livestock theft and illegal harvesting of coffee in different parts of the country.

“With the implementation of the sub-county policing model, please quicken the investigation and prosecution of thieves that have impeded the PDM. In Kashari, for example, cows are being slaughtered on farms, and meat is carried away straight to restaurants and butcheries. Meanwhile, in many areas, coffee is harvested on the farm or trees are cut and taken away by thieves,” Kasingye noted.

He emphasized that addressing these crimes would contribute significantly to the fight against poverty and improve livelihoods in rural communities.

“Once we’ve negated this, poverty will be fought against quickly. Congratulations once again & I wish you well my young brother,” he concluded.

Since his appointment in January 2022, AIGP Magambo has played a key role in modernizing CID operations, tackling organized crime, and improving investigative efficiency within the Uganda Police Force.

It is with no doubt that his contract renewal for another two years is a vote of confidence in his leadership, with security experts praising his efforts in modernizing CID operations and strengthening Uganda’s criminal justice system.
