Kaliro, (UG):- As President Museveni continues to traverse the whole country on assessment of wealth creation programs, a shining example of how government support and mindset change can transform lives is that of one Gooli, a resident of Butambala Parish in Gadumire Subcounty, Kaliro who has had his livelihood duly change through the Parish Development Model (PDM).
Using funds received under the PDM wealth creation program, Gooli says has been able to turn a modest investment into a thriving piggery business, demonstrating the impact of strategic planning and hard work.
He shared his story with Mr Wabwire Andrew, the Office of the National Chairman (ONC) Coordinator for Kaliro District, who had visited his farm as part of government monitoring exercise to assess the progress of his project.
Accompanied by Parish Chief Madam Nakayima Susan, GISO Mr. Tibatesa Elijt, PISO, LCII Chairman, and SACCO leaders, the team was met with undeniable proof of success. What they found was a testament to the determination and the tangible benefits of government intervention in grassroots development.
Two years ago, Gooli received one million shillings under PDM. With a clear vision, he invested wisely, purchasing two mature pigs at 300,000 shillings each, three sacks of feeds for 150,000, and allocating 100,000 for veterinary services.
His disciplined approach and commitment to growth soon yielded impressive results. Today, he proudly owns 14 piglets valued at 50,000 each and five mature pigs worth 300,000 each. His venture has already provided financial relief, as he was able to sell some pigs last year to cover his children’s school fees.
Reflecting on his journey, Gooli admits that before PDM, he never imagined managing such a project. However, the government’s mindset change training equipped him with the knowledge to plan, invest, and expand.
While he has achieved considerable success, challenges remain. Poor structures, high feed costs, and limited capital pose obstacles to further expansion, yet he remains undeterred. With unwavering determination, he envisions taking his piggery business to the next level.

Butambala Parish Chief, Ms Nakayima Susan commended Gooli’s resilience and initiative, emphasizing that his story embodies the core purpose of PDM empowering individuals to establish sustainable businesses and improve their standards of living.
Mr Wabwire Andrew, the Kaliro District ONC Coordinator encouraged other beneficiaries to follow Gooli’s example, emphasizing government’s commitment to poverty eradication through targeted support programs.
Gooli’s story is an inspiring example of how mindset change and government support can transform lives. With continued hard work and strategic reinvestment, he is set to achieve even greater success. His journey proves that with the right resources, knowledge, and determination, small beginnings can lead to big achievements.
