Mbale, (UG):- The Umukuka III of the Bamasaba People, His Highness Jude Mike Mudoma has assured District Health Officers (DHOs) from Bukwo, Kapchorwa, Kween, Bulambuli, Sironko, Mbale District, Manafwa, Mbale City, Bududa, and Namisindwa that his people will fully participate in all government health programs.
Speaking on behalf of the Umukuka, Mr Steven Masiga, the Bamasaba Cultural Institution spokesperson, commended the Ministry of Health and Mbale Regional Referral Hospital for their continued collaboration with the cultural institution.
Mr Masiga emphasized that when the institution is actively involved, it becomes easier to mobilize the Bamasaba community to embrace government-led health initiatives.
“I pledge, on behalf of the cultural institution, that our people will be well-informed about various health services, including the new malaria drug rollout set to begin in April. The initiative will cover most districts in the Elgon region, including Bugisu and Sebei, with infants aged four months and above receiving a monthly dose,” he stated, adding “This vital information will be directly disseminated to our clan members.”
Ms Masiga further pledged to mobilize all clan members to undergo screening and diagnosis for tuberculosis (TB), HIV, malaria, and other illnesses.
The Ministry of Health officers and Mbale Regional Referral Hospital staff, represented by Dr Obbo and planner Mr Tom Wanasolo, moderated the session and assured the cultural institution of continued involvement in health programs.
The workshop held at Mt. Elgon Hotel from Monday to Thursday, brought together District Health Officers and biostatisticians from over 10 districts in the Elgon region. Data presented during the workshop revealed that malaria remains the leading cause of death in the region, while pneumonia ranks high in some districts.
