Kampala, (UG):– The Opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) President Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has condemned the detention of two party supporters recently abducted by security personnel and demanded their unconditional release.

In a statement released via his official X account (formerly Twitter) on Sunday evening, Bobi Wine revealed that one supporter identified as Kinobe Rashid was abducted on Monday, February 10 at around 10:00 PM in Nansana by unidentified individuals using a drone vehicle with registration number UBB 178N.

The latest victim, Kiyemba Sharif, was reportedly taken by six armed men in civilian attire from Mini-Price, Kampala, on Saturday, February 15, 2025.

“Their whereabouts remain unknown till now, although the available information indicates that they are being held by CMI (Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence), which is famed for the grave torture of political activists opposed to the Museveni regime,” Bobi Wine stated.

The opposition leader decried the continued illegal detention of NUP supporters, stating that his party is still demanding answers regarding 18 members abducted between 2019 and 2021, whose fate remains unclear.

“As our legal teams do their best to try and trace them, WE DEMAND FOR THEIR UNCONDITIONAL RELEASE from illegal detention,” Bobi asserted.

The alleged abductions come amid growing concerns from human rights groups and opposition parties over the treatment of political dissidents in Uganda.

NUP has repeatedly accused the government of targeting its members through illegal arrests, enforced disappearances, and torture claims the government has often dismissed.

Kyagulanyi’s Sunday statement reignites concerns over state repression as Uganda moves toward the 2026 general elections, with opposition figures warning of a deteriorating political climate.

The NUP leader has vowed to pursue legal avenues to secure the release of its supporters and continues to call upon the international community to hold the Ugandan government accountable for human rights violations.
