Madi Okollo, (UG):– At least one person was killed and 19 others seriously injured in a violent assault at a wedding introduction ceremony in Oguruku cell, Enyio ward, Inde Town Council, Madi Okollo District, West Nile.
The deceased identified as a 25-year-old Angundru Arnold, was a resident of Parandra cell, and left seven others from Parandra and 12 from Oguruku cell injured.
Uganda Police Spokesperson ACP Rusoke Kituuma confirmed Monday that the deadly attack occurred in the early hours of Saturday, February 15, 2025, when unknown assailants stormed a local disco at around 1:00 AM.
“On Saturday, February 15, 2025, at around 1:00 AM, an assault by unknown individuals occurred at a disco in Oguruku cell, Enyio ward, Inde Town Council, Madi Okollo District, during an introduction marriage ceremony resulting in 01 death and 19 injuries. Angundru Arnold, a 25-year-old resident of Parandra cell, died, and seven other people from Parandra cell were injured, along with 12 people from Oguruku cell, overall,” ACP Kituuma said during a weekly press briefing at police headquarters in Naguru.
The following, a retaliatory attack ensued when a group of youth from the Parandra cell stormed Oguruku cell at approximately noon. The mob set fire to over 300 houses, accusing Oguruku residents of being behind the deadly attack at the wedding ceremony.
Kituuma said, “Police intervened, and numerous residents of Oguruku cell fled for their lives, while victims were admitted to various health centres.”
He further condemned the wave of violence and urged the public to avoid acts of mob justice.
“We implore the population in that area to desist from actions of mob justice,” ACP Kituuma stated, adding that investigations into the initial attack and the subsequent retaliation are ongoing.
