Abim District has witnessed a surge in violent cattle raids in recent months, most of which are attributed to Karamojong warriors, which has led to significant security concerns among residents.

In October 2024, a tragic incident occurred when 16-year-old Brian Ochen was fatally shot by suspected Karamojong warriors in Arengepua Ward, Morulem Town Council.

Ochen and his peers were ambushed while returning from a market; although his friends managed to escape, Ochen was killed instantly. This event heightened fears within the community, as reports indicated that the warriors had begun targeting children during their raids.

The persistent cattle rustling has not only resulted in loss of life and property but has also disrupted economic activities and instilled a pervasive sense of insecurity among the populace. In response, local leaders have called for increased security measures and government intervention to curb the escalating violence.
