University Football League (Group D)
Bugema 1-0 KIU
Bugema University secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Kampala International University (KIU) at the Bugema arena grounds.
The win solidifies Bugema’s position at the top of the group with nine points, while KIU remains rooted at the bottom with just one point after four games.
The decisive moment came in the 45th minute when Male Joseph unleashed a stunning strike to break the deadlock, courtesy of a well-timed assist from Ssentongo Suleiman sending the home crowd into raptures as Bugema took a slender lead into halftime.
Despite a spirited effort from KIU, Bugema dominated much of the game, creating several chances.
Bugema’s attacking trio of Male Joseph, Ssentongo Suleiman, and Jjombwe Arthur kept the KIU defense on their toes, with Arthur narrowly missing a chance to double the lead in the 65th minute.
KIU’s goalkeeper, Amoni Eddy, made crucial saves to keep his team in the game, including denying Male Joseph in the 55th minute after a swift counterattack.
However, KIU struggled to create clear-cut opportunities, with Bugema’s defense holding firm under pressure.
The result sets up a deciding group-stage match next week, as Bugema will face Kampala University to determine who tops Group D and secures a spot in the quarterfinals.
Meanwhile, KIU’s hopes of advancing are all but extinguished, leaving them to play for pride in their remaining fixture.
Group D Standings:
- Bugema University – 9 points
- Kampala University – 9 points
- Gulu University – 4 points
- Kampala International University – 1 point
