Two of four abducted NUP election bosses dumped at SIU Kireka, says Bobi Wine

Kampala, (UG):- Two of the four National Unity Platform (NUP) election management committee officials who were allegedly abducted earlier this week have been released and dumped at the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) in Kireka – Kampala, Ugandan opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi, alias Bobi Wine, has said.

In an update shared on Thursday night via X (formerly Twitter), Bobi Wine revealed that Mercy Walukamba and Rahma Juma, both part of NUP’s election management team, were driven from the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI) facility in Mbuya and dumped at SIU Kireka before being released.

“After exposing the criminals and the sustained pressure from all of you, this night, they drove NUP_Ug‘s Election Management officials Mercy Walukamba and Rahma Juma from Mbuya (CMI/DIS) and dumped them at SIU Kireka, from where they were released,” Bobi Wine stated.

“They have told us how they were subjected to all manner of threats and intimidation and interrogated about very ridiculous things, but they are of strong spirits,” the former presidential candidate added, calling for continued pressure until all political prisoners are freed.

The two were among four NUP officials who were reportedly abducted at gunpoint in Lungala, Mpigi District, on Tuesday, February 18, while returning from a burial in Rakai District. The other two officials; Rovans Alex Lwanyaga and Eddie Kayabura, remain missing according to Bobi Wine.

Eyewitnesses claimed that the NUP election officials were taken by armed men in unmarked “drone” vehicles, a method widely associated with enforced disappearances of government critics in Uganda.

The abductions have sparked widespread condemnation from opposition groups and human rights organizations, who accuse the government of targeting political activists.

Bobi Wine continued to demand the immediate release of all missing members and an end to illegal detentions.
