Kampala, (UG):- Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba Friday launched a scathing attack on Dr Winnie Byanyima, the wife of detained opposition leader Dr Kizza Besigye, over her remarks regarding her past relationship with his father President Yoweri Museveni.
Dr Byanyima, who is also the Executive Director of UNAIDS, made the remarks Saturday morning but was quick to downplay the significance of that past connection with Museveni, whom she said has known her since she was 3 years old.
“It was a normal relationship with President Museveni. It had some challenges, and I left it, but it is not relevant to the political discussion,” Dr Byanyima remarked while addressing journalists from her home in Kasangati.
Hours later, Gen Kainerugaba took to social media to refute Byanyima’s claim in a fiery response, insisting that her relationship with his father was anything but normal.
“There was NOTHING normal about your relationship with my father. You found a happy home and tried to wreck it. You’re a DISASTER of a woman!! You didn’t leave. Mzee kicked you out of the house in December of 1986, dragged you to the car while you were crying and sent you to your parents,” the First Son wrote.

The public exchange between the two has reignited discussions about the personal and political entanglements within Uganda’s leadership, especially regarding the continued detention of Byanyimas’ husband and veteran opposition leader, Dr Kizza Besigye.
Besigye, a former ally-turned-critic of Museveni, who has faced multiple arrests is currently facing treachery charges, which many believe are politically motivated by the NRM government led by Mr Museveni.
The sharp words from Gen. Kainerugaba, directed towards Besigye’s wife Byanyima, act as an indicator of the longstanding tensions between Uganda’s ruling establishment and its opposition figures.
With Uganda heading into another election cycle, such confrontations underline the deep-seated personal and political rifts that continue to shape the country’s political landscape.
