Kampala, (UG):- The National Unity Platform (NUP) President, Mr Robert Kyagulanyi, alias Bobi Wine, has revealed that some of the electronic gadgets seized during the recent security raid at the opposition party’s offices in Makerere Kavule and its school of leadership in Kamwokya have been traced to police and military intelligence headquarters.
In a post shared on X on Saturday night, Bobi Wine stated that GPS tracking on the stolen devices showed their current location being at the Uganda Police Headquarters in Naguru and the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI) headquarters in Mbuya.
“We have traced some of the stolen computers, phones, and other electronic gadgets to the Police Headquarters at Naguru, while others have been taken to CMI (DIS) headquarters at Mbuya according to the GPS on these devices,” Bobi Wine posted.
The former presidential candidate alleged that security agencies are attempting to hack into the recovered devices in an effort to access sensitive party information, but reaffirmed that the party’s IT team is working to secure digital information, though hard copy documents taken during the operation remain compromised.
“There are also attempts to hack into some of these devices. Thankfully, our IT teams are doing their best to protect our data, except that which they found in hard copy. These criminals often forget that they’re dealing with a more sophisticated generation! We’ve been monitoring all their criminal actions in real-time,” he said.
Bobi Wine’s latest claims come in the wake of a joint security raid on NUP offices in Kamwokya and its headquarters in Kavule, which security forces say was aimed at recovering illegal materials, including military attire after an alleged military drill for the so-called ‘foot soldiers’.
Police Spokesperson ACP Rusoke Kituuma, in a press statement on February 22, confirmed that several exhibits had been seized from NUP premises and would be used as evidence. However, he did not provide specifics on the nature of the items.
The raid on NUP offices has sparked national and international concern, with opposition figures and human rights activists condemning the operation as an attempt to stifle political opposition ahead of the 2026 general elections.
Bobi Wine has repeatedly accused security forces of fabricating charges against NUP members and engaging in looting during the search operation.
“Our leaders went to check on our premises at Kamwokya and Kavule after the criminals left. We’re still assessing the extent of damage, but we can confirm that they stole many things, including computers, valuable documents, money, hundreds of t-shirts, and other branded materials,” Bobi Wine said in an earlier statement on Saturday evening.
He also raised concerns over the presence of foreign operatives of East-Asian descent among the security personnel who conducted the searches.
The Uganda Police Force has promised further updates on the operation, but with fresh allegations of hacking attempts and digital tracking of the confiscated materials, the political standoff between NUP and state security agencies is likely to intensify.
As investigations continue, all eyes remain on how security agencies will respond to the allegations of digital espionage and whether NUP will take legal action over the confiscation of its materials. Bobi Wine has vowed that his party will not be intimidated, emphasizing that they are closely monitoring every move by the authorities.
Security agencies were yet to comment on Bobi Wine’s latest accusations regarding the tracking of stolen gadgets to police and military installations.
