Seeta High student, 16, found hanging dead inside school dormitory

Kampala businessman Ssesaazi Robert's son, Elishammah Ssesanga, a Senior three student at Seeta High School, hanged himself in the dormitory after his father reportedly refused to give him Shs2M he had requested.

Mukono, (UG):– The Police in Mukono District have launched an investigation into the suspected suicide at Seeta High School, Mukono Main Campus after a Senior Three (S.3) student was found hanging in the school dormitory in the early hours of Friday morning.

Ssesazi Elishammah, 16, son to Kampala businessman Ssesaazi Robert is said to have hanged himself in the dormitory on February 21, 2025, after his father reportedly refused to give him the Shs2M cash he had requested for upkeep.

“Preliminary reports indicate that at approximately 3:00 AM, a student, identified as Ssesazi Elishammah, a 16-year-old male student in Senior Three (S.3) at Seeta High School, Mukono Main Campus, was found hanging in the dormitory,” the Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson, ASP Luke Owoyesigyire stated in a Saturday police statement.

“It is alleged that the deceased had attended evening classes on the previous day until 10:00 PM and later retired to the dormitory along with his classmates. However, at around 3:00 AM, one of his roommates discovered him hanging next to his bed and immediately informed the school administration, which subsequently alerted the police.”

“The police responded promptly, and the body was removed from the scene and transported to City Mortuary Mulago for a postmortem examination to establish the exact cause of death,” he added.

At this stage, ASP Owoyesigyire said the motive behind the suspected suicide remains unknown, and authorities are conducting further investigations to establish the circumstances leading to the incident.

“We urge students, parents, and the public to remain calm as we conduct thorough investigations into this matter. More details will be communicated as the probe progresses,” the Deputy KMP publicist emphasized.

The tragic incident has raised concerns over student mental health and well-being in boarding schools, with education stakeholders calling for increased psychosocial support and counselling services for learners.
