Bunyoro, Ankole, and Kampala edge ahead in FUFA Drum first leg playoffs

FUFA DRUM PRELIMINARY PLAYOFFS
– Bunyoro 3:2 Rwenzori
– Ankole 5:1 Sebei
– Kampala 2:1 Bukedi

The FUFA Drum tournament resumed its preliminary stage action over the weekend of February 22nd-23rd with Ankole, Bunyoro and Kampala regions coming out on top in the first leg fixtures.

Bunyoro Province managed a 3-2 victory over Rwenzori Province in a tightly contested match played on Saturday at Kigaya Primary School in Hoima, thanks to the hosts’ dynamic performance that earned them a narrow lead heading into the second leg.

Another Saturday fixture saw Kampala Province also take a slim advantage in their matchup, defeating Bukedi Province 2-1 at Yes Center in Nsambya, Kampala.

On Sunday, Ankole Province dominated Sebei Province with a commanding 5-1 win at Kakyeka Stadium in Mbarara. Ankole’s impressive display has them in a strong position as they look to secure their place in the next stage.

The FUFA Drum tournament, themed ‘Celebrating Our Ancestry,’ continues to celebrate Uganda’s rich cultural diversity and promote unity through sport.

The upcoming qualification round will feature six provinces competing for a chance to join the already-qualified eight: Teso, Busoga, Buganda, Lango, West Nile, Kigezi, Tooro, and Acholi.

The second leg fixtures will take place in the coming weeks, with a pivotal match between Karamoja and Bugisu also set to take place.
