Bukwo, (UG):– The Uganda Police Force (UPF) on Friday commissioned the newly constructed District Police Headquarters in Bukwo, demonstrating its commitment to modernizing police facilities across the country.

The state-of-the-art police HQs, constructed by the Uganda Police Construction Unit, were officially opened by Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGP) Dr. Namutebi Hadijja, the Director of Welfare, Production and Sports.

AIGP Namutebi, who represented the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Abbas Byakagaba, lauded the development, emphasizing its role in improving police operations and service delivery in the region.

Delivering a message on behalf of the IGP, AIGP Namutebi urged police officers in Bukwo to utilize the new facility to serve the community with professionalism and integrity.

“This modern facility should serve as a symbol of our commitment to professionalism and integrity. I urge all officers to uphold the highest standards of service while engaging with the community,” she stated.

“Officers must provide quality service to the people and refrain from any misconduct that could tarnish the image of the Uganda Police Force,” she added.

The construction of the building comes in response to longstanding security concerns in the Sebei sub-region district.

In March 2023, local leaders called for a new facility following a mass prison escape in September 2022, when over 20 suspects facing charges of murder, rape, and aggravated defilement broke free.

Earlier, in March 2022, three more suspects had also escaped with the help of a police officer.

The unveiling of the Bukwo District Police Headquarters is part of an ongoing countrywide initiative under IGP Abbas Byakagaba’s leadership, aimed at transforming police stations and headquarters through refurbishment and new construction.

Since taking office, IGP Byakagaba has prioritized infrastructure development, ensuring that officers operate in conducive environments that enhance efficiency and professionalism.

With the Uganda Police Construction Unit spearheading projects nationwide, several other police facilities have undergone renovations or received new structures.
These efforts seek to bridge gaps in policing infrastructure, provide officers with better working conditions, and foster stronger community-police relations.
