Kampala, (UG):– The Directorate of Traffic & Road Safety Friday announced that the long-awaited upgrade of Lower Konge Road to bituminous standards is set to begin on March 3, 2025, and will last for four months.
In a statement released via Uganda Police’s official account on X (formerly Twitter), SP Michael Kananura, the PRO of the Directorate of Traffic & Road Safety, outlined several road closures and diversions that will be implemented to facilitate the construction.
According to Kananura, motorists using the said routes will be affected by key closures, including the closure at Hass Petrol Station, where traffic will be diverted to Lukuli Link (Buziga Road) along Ggaba Road. Additionally, at Teletubbies Nursery and Primary School, motorists will be redirected to Lukuli Link (Buziga Road) along Lukuli Road.
To ease local access, three alternative diversions have been designated. Nabikande Road, Khasule Road, and Musutbalo Road will all serve as access routes to Lukuli Road for motorists navigating the area.
A main diversion at Lukuli Link (Buziga Road) has been established for vehicles that do not reside within the project zone.
In addition to the Lower Konge Road project, Kananura revealed that construction of a box culvert at Natate Family Loaf bakery along Masaka Road will also commence on March 3, 2025.
“To ensure smooth operations, the area will be sealed off,” he stated, advising motorists connecting to Nakawuka to use the Nalukolongo – Mutundwe – Nakawuka Road junction to connect to Old Masaka Road.
The Traffic Directorate Spox urged all road users to “plan your journeys in advance to avoid inconveniences, exercise maximum patience and discipline during the road upgrade and construction, and adhere to the directives of the traffic officers to ensure a smooth and safe flow of traffic.”
