Oakland Roots SC sign Ugandan midfielder Bobosi Byaruhanga

Oakland, CA (USA): United Soccer League side, Oakland Roots SC, has officially secured the services of Ugandan international Bobosi Byaruhanga, adding the talented 23-year-old midfielder to their squad.

The club, wich plays in the second tier of America’s football league, announced the player’s signing on Monday, March 03, marking a significant acquisition as they bolster their midfield ahead of the new season.

The Ugandan midfielder arrives at Oakland Roots SC after an impressive spell with Austin FC II in MLS Next Pro, where he played a key role in guiding the team to the 2023 Championship title.

Head Coach Gavin Glinton expressed excitement about the new signing, emphasizing Byaruhanga’s potential and valuable experience. “We’re very excited to bring in a young player like Bobosi to solidify our midfield,” he said.

“His international experience and multiple league championships at such a young age make him an invaluable addition to our squad.”

Byaruhanga has a strong track record, having won the 2022 Ugandan Premier League Championship with Vipers SC and earning the 2021 Airtel FUFA Male Player of the Year award.

He also has experience playing for the Uganda National Team, earning 27 caps, including appearances in the World Cup and Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

During his time at Austin FC II, Byaruhanga played over 1,900 minutes in 2024, scoring three goals and providing numerous shots from the midfield.

His consistent performance in the MLS Next Pro league, with a total of 50 appearances, helped cement his reputation as an attacking midfielder.

Welcoming their new signing, Oakland Roots SC expressed enthusiasm for the Ugandan’s arrival, concluding their statement with a warm message: “Welcome to Oakland, Bobosi.”
