Entebbe, (UG):- Angolan winger Pedro Honjo Chimbiambiulo alias Sukuya delivered a stellar performance as Vipers SC stormed into the Uganda Cup quarterfinals with a commanding 3-0 victory over FUFA Big League side Blacks Power FC in the Round of 16 duel at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende on Wednesday.

The win strengthens the Venoms’ pursuit of a second consecutive domestic double and their fourth Uganda Cup title in club history.

Currently leading the Uganda Premier League with 49 points, Vipers entered the match fresh off a 2-0 victory over Mbarara City FC in the previous round.

The hosts took control in the 31st minute when Yunus Sentamu slotted home a well-timed pass from Pedro Sukuya.

The Angolan forward doubled the lead in the 59th minute with a clinical finish before turning provider again, setting up Livingstone Mulondo’s header just two minutes later to seal the 3-0 victory.

Despite missing key players Allan Okello, Rogers Torach, and Karim Watambala due to international duty, Vipers’ squad depth proved invaluable as they comfortably secured their spot in the last eight.

Blacks Power, who had stunned NEC FC in the previous round, found it difficult to penetrate Vipers’ well-organized defense and failed to mount a meaningful comeback.

Kataka, Kaaro Karungi Stun UPL giants

Elsewhere, FUFA Big League side Kataka FC pulled off a shocking 5-3 penalty shootout victory over URA FC after a 1-1 draw in regulation time at Hamz Stadium.

URA had taken the lead in the 80th minute through an Abraham Tusubira penalty, but Kataka responded swiftly, equalizing just three minutes later. The match proceeded to penalties, where Kataka held their nerve, converting all five spot kicks while URA faltered.

Another major upset saw Kaaro Karungi FC dismantle UPDF FC 3-0 at Kyamate Stadium in Ntungamo, booking their spot in the quarterfinals.

Quarterfinalists Confirmed

With BUL, Police FC, SC Villa, KCCA, Vipers, Kataka, Kaaro Karungi, and defending champions Kitara securing places in the quarterfinals, the battle for Uganda’s prestigious knockout title is set to intensify.

With the winner of the Uganda Cup earning a spot in the CAF Confederation Cup, the stakes are higher than ever as the competition heats up.
