“This route marks the end of our establishment phase and sets us on the course for long-term growth and expansion. It follows meticulous planning, preparations, and many setbacks, but finally, we are there,” she said.

The route, DailyExpress understands, will connect Entebbe International Airport to London Gatwick, and it will be Uganda Airlines’ third destination outside the African continent after Dubai and Mumbai.

While she acknowledged challenges such as COVID-19-related disruptions, which delayed the London route, but emphasized that securing UK landing rights was a significant achievement, Ms Bamuturaki hinted that the economic benefits of the route will among others include; enhancement of Uganda’s connectivity with Europe, facilitating business, tourism, and trade.

“Uganda and the United Kingdom share deep historical, cultural, and economic ties, and this new route is expected to bolster trade, tourism, and investment opportunities. Industry reports have consistently identified Entebbe as one of Africa’s most underserved markets for London, making Uganda Airlines’ entry a highly anticipated development,” she said.

“Besides shortening travel times for our passengers, this route also provides a more efficient pathway for exporters of fresh products to the UK. Uganda’s exports to the UK last year were worth $22.6 million, and we are confident that our cargo capacity on the Airbus A330-800neo will support the rapid growth of Ugandan exports,” Bamuturaki added.

Passengers boarding this flight route will enjoy a premium travel experience aboard the Airbus A330-800neo, featuring Economy, Premium Economy, and Business Class cabins with world-class service.

Bamuturaki expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Works and Transport, the Ministry of Finance, the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA), and the British High Commission for their role in securing approvals for the route.

“We would not have reached this point without the active guidance of the Uganda Airlines Board, management, and staff, who have worked tirelessly to ensure this route is added to our network,” she acknowledged.

She emphasized the Airlines’ commitment to making Entebbe International Airport a key regional hub, now operating 77 weekly departures, which will increase to 81 with the London route that will become operational effective May 18, 2025.
