Kamuli, (UG):- Police in Kamuli District have arrested one Balisanyuka Jonan for allegedly assaulting a 15-year-old pupil, Bakaki Mathias, leading to his tragic death. The incident occurred on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, in Kibeto-Buyima zone, Luzinga parish, Wankoole Sub-county.
Bakaki, a pupil at Five Star Nursery and Primary School Luzinga, was on his way home with friends when they came across a heap of sugarcane guarded by Balisanyuka.
“When they attempted to take some cane for consumption, Balisanyuka chased them but Bakaki did not run away. The suspect assaulted him and he fell down unconscious,” a police statement said on Thursday, adding that Bakaki was rushed to a nearby clinic but was pronounced dead on arrival.
In the aftermath of the tragic incident, police swiftly arrested Balisanyuka, and he is currently in custody as investigations continue.
Bakaki’s tragic killing has sparked outrage in the community, adding to growing concerns over rising crime in Kamuli District. In recent months, the district has seen a surge in violent incidents, including domestic violence, defilement cases, and brutal assaults.
Local leaders and residents are calling for stricter law enforcement to curb violence and ensure justice for the victim’s family.
Police authorities urged the public to stay calm and allow the legal process to take its course as they gather more evidence in the case.
