Kampala, Mengo (UG):- South African football giants Mamelodi Sundowns FC, Friday paid a courtesy call to the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) as part of their African tour, kicking off with the East African country.
Led by club Chairman Mr Thlopie Motsepe, the team visited FUFA House in Mengo on Friday afternoon with legendary former Uganda Cranes captain and ex-goalkeeper Denis Masinde Onyango and was received by FUFA President Eng Moses Magogo alongside the Association CEO, Mr Edgar Watson.
“Their trip to Uganda is a tribute to legendary former Uganda Cranes captain and goalkeeper Masinde Onyango, featuring a special football clinic to be conducted tomorrow at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo,” FUFA posted on Friday afternoon.
Having arrived in Uganda on Thursday, the team first visited Ntanda College, their keeper’s former school in Butambala District, central Buganda.

Onyango retired from international football in 2021 after making 79 appearances for the Uganda Cranes. He is one of the most decorated players in Mamelodi Sundowns’ history and boasts 16 trophies with the club, including seven Premier Soccer League titles, a CAF Champions League trophy, and several individual accolades.
In 2016, Onyango reached the peak of his career when he was named CAF’s African-based Player of the Year and Best African Goalkeeper that same year.
Mamelodi Sundown’s tour and visit to Uganda concludes Saturday, March 22, 2025, with a football clinic at Hamz Stadium in Nakivubo from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., as the SA giants’ delegation continues to celebrate Onyango’s immense contribution to the game and his lasting legacy.
