Kampala, (UG): The Police at Kira Road are holding in custody two people over the mysterious death of a young woman who collapsed and died at Mezo Noir, a popular night club in Kampala under mysterious circumstances.
The girl, identified as Martha Ahumuza Murari was daughter to Mr Seth Murari, the Head of Games and Sports at President Museveni’s Office of the National Chairman (ONC) at Kyambogo in Kampala.
Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, Patrick Onyango said on Friday, March 21, 2025, that two suspects; Edward Mugabo and his brother Joseph Kalenzi are in detention to aid police in investigations following the death of the 23-year-old patron.
Martha, who recently graduated from ISBAT University collapsed in the manager’s office at the Kololo pub in the wee hours of Thursday morning and was rushed to Kampala Hospital, only to be pronounced dead moments later.
“The victim met her friend, Mugabo Edward, a cashier at the bar, at 2 am, and they drank together until 3:30 am when they moved to the manager’s office, which has no CCTV cameras. The victim reportedly collapsed in the office, and Mugabo notified his brother, Kalenzi Joseph. They rushed the victim to Kampala Hospital, where she was put on life support,” Mr Onyango said.
The Police statement came hours after Mezo Noir, announced Thursday that it had suspended its operations citing “unforeseen circumstances” as the reason for the temporary closure. “Due to unforeseen circumstances, Mezo Noir Kampala will be temporarily closed to the public, effective immediately, until further notice,” the statement shared on social media said.
“We appreciate your understanding and regret any inconvenience this may have caused,” it added. “Notification of the reopening date will be issued in due course,” the statement concluded.
Burial Program released
On Friday morning, the family of the late Martha Ahumuza Murari released the official funeral program for the final send-off of their beloved daughter, starting with the vigil on Friday evening at Kembabazi Catering Centre at Katalima Rd, Naguru, a Kampala urban suburb.
This will be preceded by a Saturday funeral service at All Saints Church Nakasero in Kampala at 10 am before transporting the body to Mbarara for a night church service at Nyarubanga Church.
Martha will be buried on Sunday, March 23, at 2 pm at her ancestral home in Nyarubanga in Mbarara City.
