Bugweri, (UG):- The Territorial Police in Busoga East region have recovered two firearms and 14 rounds of ammunition in an operation that targeted criminals who terrorize the region by involving in various criminal activities and at least 8 suspects were arrested and detained.
This was confirmed by the regional police Spokesperson SP Micheal Kafayo in a Saturday statement, saying the detainees are alleged to be the prime suspects in a series of robberies and murders in the Busoga East region.
“The arrests followed a series of aggravated robberies and murders in which the suspects took part. During an operation, the team recovered two firearms and 14 rounds of ammunition in Bugweri district,” SP Kafayo said, adding that a motor vehicle silver in color registration number UAZ 656D was also recovered.
He identified the suspects as; Namubona Aziz, 31, Wambi Fred, 40, Mugaya Grace, 49, Ayazika Godfrey, 52, Basalirwa Stephen, 39, Wamubiligwe Henry, 30, Takuwa Zainabu, 42, and Kwagala Suzan, 43.
“Busoga East Region has made a breakthrough in apprehending prime suspects in a series of robberies in the region,” SP Kafayo said in a Saturday statement, adding that they were arrested after having terrorized the region for a long time.
Police say the suspects are believed to have participated in a series of aggravated robberies and murder incidents in the region, and this prompted security to swing into action and apprehend them.
However, police transported all the suspects and the exhibits to Busoga East Region for further investigations, as police filed charges that the suspects will battle with before the courts of law.
It should be noted that police in Busoga East have registered a number of aggravated robberies and murder cases, among which involved the killing of security guards and their rifles taken. By press time, police were yet to establish the origin of the recovered firearms and the vehicle.
