Mbarara, (UG):- Hundreds of mourners Sunday, March 23, joined the Murari family at Kafunjo Ward in Nyarubanga Parish, Kakiika Sub-county in Mbarara, to bid a sorrowful farewell to their beloved 23-year-old daughter Martha Ahumuza Murari, who tragically passed on last Wednesday night after collapsing at Mezo Noir, a popular Kampala night club.

Martha, who had just graduated from ISBAT University with a Degree in International Business in December 2024, had reportedly gone to visit a ‘friend’ at the Kololo club when she suddenly fainted and was rushed to Kampala Hospital where was pronounced dead Thursday morning.

Her dad, Mr Seth Murari speaking at the burial explained that after collapsing, Martha was rushed to the hospital, where doctors discovered a crack in her head and internal bleeding in her brain.

“We have not yet gotten results from the police, we are still waiting for them. We have not yet known the cause of death, but she had gone to see her friend and fainted from there,” Mr Murari said.

“She was taken to the hospital where she was found to have had a crack in the head, which led to the flow of blood in her brain. By the time she reached hospital, she was literally brain dead but her heart was still alive,” he added.

While the family still awaits a police report to clarify the circumstances surrounding her death, Mr Murari who was filled with sorrowful grief urged the public to refrain from spreading misinformation that could disrupt the ongoing investigation by security organs.

“We lost our child, our daughter, Martha. She died mysteriously. Very many people die a normal death, but it’s painful for a young girl to die like that. As parents we are sad about that,” he said.

“So if you lose a child and someone is mocking you online, you are really pushing us to the extreme. There is what we call humanity, which is part of being Godly. If you cannot have humanity for such moments, when will you have that,” he asked.

The police in Kampala said the number of suspects held in custody to help with investigations into the sudden death of Ahumuza has now risen to four, two of whom are minor suspects, and are out on police bond after recording their statements according to KMP publicist Mr Patrick Onyango.

“The minor two suspects shall benefit from a police bond and we remain with two who are the prime suspects as the investigations into the matter continue,” Onyango said.

He further explained that police forensic pathologists conducted a postmortem and officials from the Government Analytical Laboratory (GAL) have picked up samples of the internal organs of the deceased but have not yet issued any report on their findings.

“We informed the parents about the pending results and requested them to continue with the burial programme as we wait for the official results,” he said.

About Martha Ahumuza

Born on December 13, 2002, Martha was the daughter of Isaiah Berah Murari and Babrah Kagonyera. She was one of five siblings, including Matthew Muganga, Mark Kamuganga, Enosh Owomugisha, and Arthur Owembabazi.

Martha’s academic journey was marked by dedication and excellence, dating back to Hill Side Naalya for her primary education, Vienna College Namugongo for secondary education, and later ISBAT University for her degree in international business (second-class upper).

Martha would later join HSF International, a Logistics company based in Kampala where she made valuable contributions until her untimely demise.

At the burial, family and friends described Martha as a joyful, kind-hearted, and peace-loving individual who always put others before herself. Her warmth, generosity, and unwavering support for those around her will be deeply missed.

Her Mother, Mrs Barbara Kagonyera Murari, who was lost for words, described the demise of her daughter as profoundly shocking but asked God to receive her soul in warm spirits. She said it was painful for her to only see her daughter’s graduation which happened a few weeks ago and yet she hoped she would see her getting married.

“My daughter had promised me many things but I have only seen the graduation. I hoped she would bring me a son-in-law and have children. It is a shock to all of us and it is unbelievable that she has died suddenly,” Barbara lamented.

Enoch Owomugisha, a sibling, described Ahumuza as someone inspirational. “I liked her fashion and if something could not work out, she could instantly think of something better. She would tell us words of wisdom. One day she told me that where happiness is, the devil is also there. We were all happy to live and have a life with her and suddenly this just happened,” he said.

Mezo Noir, the popular nightlife bar in upscale Kololo where Martha collapsed from temporarily suspended its operations and is closed off as a crime scene as forensic experts investigate circumstances leading to the patron’s unfortunate demise.

As the Murari family mourns their beloved daughter, DailyExpress extends heartfelt condolences to them and all who knew Martha. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
