Iganga, (UG):- The recently released 2024 Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) examination results saw one Kirabo Peace Tracy scoring an impressive 15 points, despite initially having doubts about pursuing A-level studies.
Kirabo, who finished her senior four in 2022, says she had wanted to branch and train in a course but was later convinced by her parents and other experienced friends to join A-level, something she had to think and rethink before making a final decision.
Amidst all the challenges to decide, Kirabo says she joined A-level but with uncomfortable spirit and while speaking to DailyExpress, she said, “at first when I was advised by my father to join A-level, I did so to please my him because he wanted me to join and I didn’t want to disappoint him.”
The 20-year-old later realized that her parents were trying to brighten her future through education and decided to concentrate. Staying at school where some of her colleagues decided to join courses after senior four also made her think she had made a wrong decision.
Coming from a previously poor but Godly Born again family, Kirabo says she aimed at the best in order to make her father glad, and not to be a grief to her mother. She said her prayers were always to emerge among the best students, though at first she didn’t want to join A-level.
“The Bible says that a wise child makes the father glad, but a foolish one despises the mother. Therefore, after reading this in the Bible, I geared up and concentrated on books because I wanted to please my dad and as well not to be a grief to my dear mother,” Peace said, quoting Proverbs 15:20.
Like any other struggling child, Kirabo studied from the primary level while watching her parents toiling to raise school fees for education, and whenever she gets an opportunity in school, she fights hard to utilize it by pleasing the parents with good results.
She studied her O-level and A-level at Iganga High School, one of the government-aided schools in the district. She excelled at A-level with a combination of HLD, obtaining a B in History, a C in Lusoga, a C in Divinity and two subsidiaries of General paper and Computer studies.
Just a few days before the UACE examinations, Kirabo fell off the bicycle, which had no brake system, as she was sloping home, and her right arm was injured after suffering joint dislocation, which wasn’t realized at first. This caused her and her parents to worry about her ability to answer the papers with an injured arm.
“I wrote my exams with a painful arm, but I could wrap the hand to ensure that I finish the paper with less pain. I regretted riding the bicycle, but it was too late. I give this victory to the highest God who enabled me to excel,” Kirabo said before thanking her parents, who later, after the exams, took her for orthopedic repair of her arm after suffering a dislocation.
Narrating the story, Kirabo’s father who happens to be a Born again Pastor, Emmanuel Wambi of Bethesda Healing Centre Church in Kigulu-Iganga said, “When Kirabo finished primary seven and S.4, I could tell my wife to look for schools where we could reason and they allow her to study as we look for school fees.”
He commended God for the good performance of his daughter and also applauded the mother, Ms. Vinita Wambi, for her supportive efforts and availing a conducive environment for their child to perform well, even after writing her exams with an injured arm.
“The journey has not been easy, I just thank God for this. We have toiled, but glory is to God that she made it. Can you imagine doing exams with an injury? I cannot take this for granted,” Ms. Vinita Wambi, the mother, said before shedding tears of joy.
Kirabo Peace advised fellow children to always focus on God and work hard towards their set goal, saying, “There is nothing which is impossible with God. I call upon my fellow children to always persevere and persist until you achieve your goal.”
