Kampala, (UG):– Makerere University Business School (MUBS) has elected Ms Rose Nabwire as its 28th Guild President, marking a historic victory for an independent candidate in the institution’s student leadership.
Nabwire secured a commanding lead in the elections held on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, winning in 9 out of 10 faculties with a total of 2,255 votes.
Her strongest support came from the Faculty of Business Administration (FOBA), where she received 636 votes, and the Faculty of Commerce (FOC), where she garnered 450 votes.
The closest competitor, Lukwago Henry of the Uganda Young Democrats (UYD), secured 1,242 votes across faculties, while other candidates, including Taban Ambaho (NRM), Ssemanda Fred Mawanda, Lakwo Fred Kenneth, and Tasobya Blessed, trailed with significantly fewer votes.
Nabwire replaces NRM’s Amanya Moses, whose tenure as Guild President elapsed in the runup to the elections. She was the Vice Guild President during Amanya’s term.
As the newly elected Guild President, Nabwire is expected to take office in the coming weeks, with students looking forward to her leadership in addressing key issues and enhancing student representation at MUBS.
