Police hunt for suspects after URA team intercepts car with stolen cattle in Namutumba

Namutumba, Uganda:- The Police in Busoga East are actively hunting for suspected cattle thieves who reportedly abandoned a motor vehicle, Toyota Wish registration number UBD 244D, with suspected stolen animals in Namutumba district before escaping.

“Today morning, at around 0300hrs along the Iganga-Bugweri Highway in Iganga District, Iganga police registered an incident where URA enforcement officers, while on patrol, suspected that a vehicle with registration number UBD 244D was carrying smuggled goods,” police wrote on their official X handle.

However, upon learning about the incident, the enforcers attempted to stop the vehicle, but the occupants ignored signals and fled. This prompted the officers to pursue the vehicle to Namutumba, where they deflated one of the tires, and the occupants had to escape.

“When they attempted to stop it, the occupants fled, prompting the officers to pursue the vehicle to Namutumba, where they deflated its tire. The occupants abandoned the vehicle and escaped,” Police added.

Upon inspection of the vehicle by the URA enforcement officers, it was established that the car was loaded with cattle and the car was later taken to Busoga East Regional headquarters in Iganga pending investigations.

“Upon inspection, the vehicle, a silver Toyota Wish, was found to be loaded with cattle. It was recovered and taken to the Busoga East Regional headquarters for further management,” police said on X handle before commending the officers for exhibiting high levels of vigilance.

By the time of filing this story, police in Busoga East were yet to release a statement about the same.
