Kamuli, Uganda:- Becky’s Child Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to empowering children and the elderly in Kamuli, has honored the First Deputy Prime Minister, Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga, with the prestigious Girl Child Mamas Award for her unwavering dedication to promoting the welfare and empowerment of the girl-child.

The award was presented to Kadaga during Kamuli District’s belated Women’s Day celebrations held Friday, March 28, at Buwanume Primary School.

“A mother’s love is unconditional, lasts longer, and is unlimited. For passionately and committedly fighting for the girl child, Mama Kadaga is an exceptional mother without whom many of us would not have made it in life,” Mubezi remarked.

Mubezi further emphasized the need for the protection, mentorship, and empowerment of young girls, particularly those from vulnerable backgrounds, through proper parental bonding and positive social interactions.

Receiving the award, Kadaga expressed deep concern over the alarming rates of defilement, teenage pregnancies, and early marriages in Busoga, which she described as detrimental to the future of the girl child.

“I bleed and cry for my girls and call for concerted efforts to end these vices. Men, you men, do we need to exorcise that evil spirit that pushes you to young girls, leaving the many mature women out there? Spare my girls and allow them to build their future,” Kadaga passionately voiced.

The First Deputy Prime Minister also advocated for gender-responsive budgeting, stronger affirmative action policies, the creation of economic opportunities, and above all, ensuring that girls are enrolled, retained, and successfully complete their education.

Kadaga’s recognition by Becky’s Child Foundation is a true testament to her continued advocacy for the rights and empowerment of the girl child, especially in her native Busoga region.
