IGP Cup: Second round kicks off with thrilling encounters across Uganda

Kampala, Uganda:- The second round of the 2025 Inspector General of Police (IGP) Tournament officially kicked off last weekend in various regions of Uganda.

This round saw district teams, which competed in the first round, now grouped into eight blocks. Each block plays on a home-and-away basis, with the winner of each block advancing to the quarterfinals. A similar format is applied to the Specialized Units and Directorates within the Uganda Police Force.

The Specialized Units showed dominance, with Crime Intelligence (CI) comfortably overcoming ICT with a 3-0 victory. PPG was also on fire, producing a goal-fest as they thrashed 999 6-1.

Band Section delivered a commanding 3-0 win against Headquarters, further adding to the excitement of the weekend’s games. These results reflect the rising competition as teams aim for the quarterfinals.

Elsewhere, Counter-Terrorism (CT) secured a 2-0 victory against Fire Brigade at Kyambogo Playground. The win was a testament to their preparation and focus, ensuring they remain competitive in the tournament.

The ongoing tournament, featuring both football and netball, is expected to continue next weekend with even more action.

The IGP Tournament, initiated by Inspector General of Police Abbas Byakagaba, was launched last year with the aim of keeping police officers fit and healthy ahead of the 2026 general elections.
