Oyam, Uganda:- The Oyam District Council has proposed a draft budget of over 55 billion shillings for the Financial Year 2025-2026, marking a slight increase from the 54 billion UGX allocated in the previous financial year, 2024-2025.
The proposed budget was tabled during a full council meeting held on March 26th, 2025, at the Oyam District Council Hall at Oyam District Headquarters.
The largest portion of the proposed budget, amounting to UGX 37,433,334,000, has been allocated to Human Capital Development.
Public Sector Transformation follows with UGX 9,766,202,000, while Agro-industrialization has been allocated UGX 3,380,410,000.
The Digital Transformation sector received the smallest share of just UGX 5,909,000.
While presenting the draft budget, Christ Ongom, the Acaba Sub-County LC5 Councillor and Leader of Government Business, stated that the budget prioritizes promoting commercial agriculture, particularly coffee farming. He also highlighted a modest improvement in local revenue generation.
Benson Dila, the LC5 Chairperson of Oyam District, urged councillors to carefully review the budget and prioritize essential developments that would benefit the local population.
Meanwhile, Nomi Otieno, the Speaker of Oyam District, called on councillors to work within their respective committees to thoroughly analyze the draft before its approval to ensure effective development for the people of Oyam.
