Vipers SC bounced back to winning ways in the Uganda Premier League, defeating Lugazi FC 1-0 at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende, on Thursday to extend their lead at the top of the table to 52 points.

The win came courtesy of a stunning long-range strike from Karim Watambala in the 66th minute, securing all three points for the Venoms.

After a disappointing 1-0 loss to SC Villa in their previous match at Wankulukuku Stadium, Vipers were eager to get back on track, and they did so with a determined performance.

However, the match was far from easy, as Lugazi FC held firm in the first half, preventing the home side from breaking the deadlock.

Despite several chances from the Venoms, including a few close attempts in the first 45 minutes, both teams went into the break level at 0-0. The second half proved more fruitful for the Venoms as Watambala’s powerful shot from a distance finally gave them the lead in the 66th minute.

With the game winding down, Lugazi struggled to find an equalizer, and Vipers comfortably held onto their advantage.

The 1-0 win keeps Vipers five points clear at the top, with 52 points, while second-placed NEC FC trails with 47 points.

In other league action, Soltilo Bright Stars secured a crucial 3-1 victory over Police FC to boost their fight against relegation.

A brace from Nelson Ssenkatuka and an opener from Noordin Bunjo gave the hosts a commanding 3-0 lead before halftime. Despite a second-half goal from Adewale Bojo, Police FC couldn’t mount a comeback.

Looking ahead, the action continues this Friday with UPDF hosting NEC, Mbarara FC facing URA FC, and BUL FC welcoming SC Villa.
