Mukono, Uganda:- The Territorial Police at Naggalama Division have rescued 51 individuals from an alleged human trafficking and fraudulent recruitment scheme operated by AIM Global Alliance, a networking company with offices in Mukono District.
In a statement released on Thursday, April 03, 2025, Police said the operation was carried out on Wednesday, April 2, following a tip-off regarding suspicious recruitment activities in the area.
“Yesterday, 02/04/2025, at around 1000 hours, the police received information of people who were being conned in the form of recruiting them for jobs by AIM GLOBAL ALLIANCE, a networking company in the Naggalama division,” the police statement posted via social media platform X, read on Thursday evening
The victims, who were found crammed in overcrowded and unsanitary conditions, were allegedly lured with false promises of lucrative job opportunities. The police report indicates that upon reporting for the purported jobs, each victim was instructed to pay UGX 150,000 for “training.”
“After they pick the victim’s phone, they start recruiting their friends and also call the relatives to pay UGX 1,500,000 to buy their products, which they will sell and get more money,” the police statement noted, describing the scheme as a deceptive pyramid-style operation.
Authorities reported conducting the operation in various locations across Kalagi, Mukono District, where the victims were discovered in crowded, makeshift accommodations:
“They always promise victims that in the future they will reach a time when they will be earning at least 1,000,000 (one million), depending on the people you have recruited and the sales made,” the statement added.
Police further explained that the victims targeted were from Kakola village, Kyabakadde parish, Kyampisi sub-county, where 14 of them (03 males and 11 females) were found sharing a single room, Kalagi village, Naggalama A ward, Nakifuma Naggalama town council: 20 victims (10 males and 10 females) were also found packed into a small single room and Bbosa village, Kyabakadde parish: 14 victims (06 males and 08 females) were found in one cramped room.
Authorities have since arrested Kasule Zephaniah and Nantima Evelyn, the alleged masterminds behind the operation, who are currently detained at Nagalama Police Station pending further investigation.
The fraudulent nature of the operation is consistent with previous reports of similar scams orchestrated by multi-level marketing firms under the guise of networking and business mentorship.
And police have urged the public to be vigilant and cautious when dealing with companies that require hefty upfront payments for employment opportunities, warning that many such schemes are veiled scams aimed at exploiting vulnerable individuals seeking employment.
