IGANGA: What exactly happened as police hunt for hooligans in brutal attack on Alien Skin

Iganga, Uganda: The Territorial Police in Iganga District are actively hunting for a group of individuals behind a violent attack on controversial Ugandan musician Patrick Mulwana, popularly known as Alien Skin, and the vandalisation of his vehicle during a violent scene that unfolded at a belated International Women’s Day celebration on Sunday, April 13.

The incident, according to reports, occurred at Iganga Municipal Council Primary School shortly after Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja had addressed a massive crowd gathered for the district’s Women’s Day festivities.

What was intended to be an evening of celebration and music quickly spiraled into chaos following the arrival of the singer. Alien Skin was among several artistes lined up to perform at the event. However, trouble erupted after 3:00 pm when the event’s master of ceremonies announced the presence of a “big musician,” triggering heightened excitement among the crowd.

According to Busoga East Police spokesperson Michael Kafayo, as the musician entertained the audience, a visibly enthusiastic fan breached security and jumped onto the stage to dance with the singer but was stopped by Alien Skin’s private security detail.

The aggressive handling of the fan, according to police, enraged a section of the audience, some of whom began hurling stones toward the stage in protest.

Alien Skin was swiftly escorted off the platform and rushed to his car by his team, but the mob reportedly pursued him and pelted his vehicle with stones, damaging it heavily.

“We are following up on this matter and investigating the said hooligans and their motive of smashing the musician’s car,” SP Kafayo told journalists on Monday, describing the attackers as rowdy and dangerous.

This latest incident adds to a growing list of controversies involving Alien Skin, who has been in the headlines multiple times for clashes with fellow artists and violent confrontations.

In 2024, the singer was embroiled in a public feud with Pius Mayanja, alias Pallaso, after accusing him of theft and damage to property worth millions. The matter was reported at Katwe Police Station.

One altercation allegedly saw Alien Skin’s supporters drag Pallaso off stage during a joint show, leading to a retaliatory raid on Alien Skin’s home in Makindye, where extensive damage was reported. The singer reportedly hid in the ceiling during the assault.

Alien Skin later filed police complaints against Pallaso, citing theft, malicious damage to property, and destruction of glass installations at his home.

In a separate 2023 incident, the singer was accused of leading an assault on Nsambya Hospital staff, including a nurse and a security guard.

Despite his growing fan base and musical influence, Alien Skin’s performances continue to be marred by violence and controversy, raising fresh concerns about the safety of artists, fans, and public order at high-profile events.
