Kampala, Uganda: Mavid Pharmaceuticals Limited, a Ugandan-based manufacturer, wholesaler and retailer of quality and cost-effective drugs, has announced a UGX 6 million sponsorship towards the upcoming 2025 edition of the Uganda Muslim Education Association (UMEA) Solidarity Games, a major boost to promoting sports and youth development in schools nationwide.
The sponsorship deal was unveiled on Monday, April 14, at Mavid’s offices in Makay Plaza, Kampala, in the presence of officials from both the company and the Local Organising Committee.
In the agreement, a copy of which this publication has seen, Mavid Pharmaceuticals is set to take charge of funding both the opening and closing ceremonies, as well as supporting all football competitions at the games.
The 37th edition of the UMEA Games will run from April 17 to 22 at Namagabi Secondary School in Kayunga District, a venue with a rich sports history and proven capacity to host major school competitions. This will be the third time Namagabi is hosting the high-profile event.
Over 100 schools and approximately 1,200 student-athletes from across Uganda are expected to take part in the games, which continue to grow in scale and diversity.
The competitions will feature football, volleyball, netball, handball, woodball, badminton, and table tennis, with mind games like chess and scrabble introduced for the first time to foster intellectual development.
Mr. Kitezaala Katumba Twaibu, the UMEA Chairman, welcomed the partnership and emphasized that the core mission of the games is to unite students through sport while nurturing talent and discipline.
“These games are not just about competition; they are about character building, team spirit, and creating opportunities for our youth to thrive both academically and athletically,” Katumba said.
The opening ceremony is scheduled for this Thursday, April 17, while competitions will run through Easter Monday, April 21, before concluding on April 22.
Kibuli Secondary School dominated the 2024 edition of the UMEA Games, with Kawanda and Masaka Secondary School also registering outstanding performances in multiple disciplines.
