Kole, Uganda: A man in Kole District is under investigation for allegedly attempting to negotiate and settle a defilement case involving his 16-year-old niece outside of the formal justice system.
The victim was reportedly defiled on April 20, 2025, in Apuripro village, Abur Parish, Ayer Sub-County. The alleged perpetrator, Augustine Ngole, a local nurse, is accused of committing the offense in a neighbor’s house before fleeing the scene.
Shockingly, the victim’s uncle, Jimmy Abanya, along with other relatives, allegedly accepted UGX 200,000 from the defiler’s family on April 21 in a bid to resolve the matter privately. However, the victim’s father, Tonny Ojok, rejected the settlement and reported the case to Alemi Police Outpost, ensuring the case was formally pursued.
Moses Emwony, a resident of Apuripro, revealed that the UGX 200,000 was split between individuals who facilitated the abuse. “Jimmy Abanya received 100,000 Ugandan shillings each from a neighbor who convinced the minor to accept Augustine Ngole, the accused, and another resident who provided their house for the incident,” he stated.
Emwony further claimed that the matter was informally resolved before the LC1 office of Apuripro village without proper documentation or legal process.
Isaac Tenga, the general secretary of Apurparo village, confirmed local authorities were aware of the incident and had referred the case to police. “Our office is aware of the case, but we have forwarded it to the police for further management,” said Tenga.
However, when contacted by press time, North Kyoga Police spokesperson Patrick Jimmy Okema said he had not yet been briefed. “I am not yet aware of the incident. I will need to first find out,” Okema told DailyExpress.
Under Section 129 of the Penal Code Act, defilement is a grave criminal offense in Uganda. A conviction carries a maximum sentence of 18 years for simple defilement and the death penalty for aggravated defilement.
